There is much detail in the survey as usual.  My take on the survey is that numbers across the state are up 18% on average.  A factor that could have come into play during the survey were non-dewey mornings when routes were driven.  It has been very dry in the state since early July.

Another factor is the drought in the southern regions which could explain the lower counts for Yankton, Chamberlain and Winners routes.

Additionally, due to the dry conditions and shortage of hay and forage for cattle, many of the road ditches were mowed in late June and early July. If this was the case along brood routes, it could reduce visible numbers although there could have been good numbers in the area.

CRP is declining in total acres in the state but areas with good cover and CRP should see decent gains.
