Late Season Hunting Looks To Be Excellent in 2014

After reviewing the USDA crop harvest reports, the 2014 crop harvest is shaping up to be very similar to that of the 2013 season in which the best hunting of the year was after Thanksgiving.
USDA crop harvest reports corn and bean crops to be on pace with the development of 2013 crops which was a very late harvest. This could setup for the perfect pheasant storm in a year where bird counts are up 76% over last year's being down 64%.
We just had 4" of rain in the gauge at our farm over the last 2 weeks which is good for crops but not good for getting crops to maturity.
Our UGUIDE pheasant harvest data suggested a 2.0 bird per person average week 9 of the season last year which is what prompted us to open up later season slots, like week 10, that had no groups in them last year due the original bird outlook.
My neighbor's place, Cattail Haven, is a tier 4 camp but was pulling limits last year after Thanksgiving week when all the crops were finally taken off.
In short, I am saying that all our openings we have week 7 or later could be some of the best hunting of the year and some of the best hunting in years in South Dakota. Not to mention some of the best hunting values in the state.
Here's a list of our currently Available Pheasant Camp properties.
You will want to get familiar with our Minimums and Capacities grid as they vary by camp and by week.
All bookings are 100% deposit required to reserve online after Sept 1. And reservations are on a first come first serve basis. If you want to run a sample quote for your group your can do so here.
I personally hunted West River Adventures weeks 9 & 10 the last 3 years and will hunt Pheasant Camp Lodge week 9 and then again after Christmas this year. Late season is my favorite time of year to hunt pheasants in South Dakota. The "100 bird flush" is common this time of year and some might even witness the fabled "1000 bird flush" that South Dakota is known for.
