First Brood of the Year on the Ground

May 20, 2015 by

This beats last year by one week.  I thought Memorial Weekend last year was very early but this beats it by a week.  Yesterday the temps dipped close to freezing and tonight there is a cold rain.  We are close to a warm up though.  This is oddly enough a very similar weather pattern to last May at this time.  Very cold temps the week of May 12-16 and then a nice warm up for good after that.

The state went from a drought to being not able to get into the field to plant.

The rain is welcome and the cover is greening up very nicely. This should help with the bug population for the new chicks.

Sure enough these chicks were sighted in between a host of excellent cover.  They were:  Tree belt, food plot, warm season grass stand, cool season grass stand.
