First Brood Sighting of The Season
June 02, 2014 by UGUIDE South Dakota Waterfowl Hunting
First Broods of the season sighted at Pheasant Camp Lodge on Memorial Weekend Week.
I have planted food plots many years on memorial weekend and have never seen any broods that early. I was very surprised to see two hens with broods after having the leaves off the plum trees frozen by a killing frost May 15th.
The nesting cover is excellent at Pheasant Camp Lodge and the master habitat plan seems to be producing.
Additionally, I am usually reserved about any forward looking statements about pheasant numbers but everyone I talk to is seeing more birds than last year.
I believe the carry over of roosters is pretty good as well which means more TROPHY birds will be harvested this year.
