UGUIDE Week 2 Harvest Report By Camp

UGUIDE has begun to collect harvest data from each of its camps for each week and will post these results here on a weekly basis.  We will do this in an effort to distinguish itself from speculative and non comprehensive media reports to give the pheasant hunter a better idea of what is going on around the state of South Dakota, and more importantly, at UGUIDE Pheasant Camps.

Keep in mind that fair chase pheasant hunting has a host of variables that can affect harvest success.  Assume all data is for self-guided unguided pheasant hunts and where guided will be noted in the results.  Unguided pheasant hunitng success can be affected dramitically by just a few of these variables:  Crop harvest progress, dog skills, dog quantity, hunter skills, hunter quantity, shooting skills, daily weather, etc.

Weekly Crop % Harvested Data from USDA Oct. 28, 2014 - Soybeans - Complete, Corn - 34%, Sorghum - 69%, Sunflowers - 29%,

Week 2 Results and Comments  (Numbers posted in average pheasants harvested per person per day in .5 increments +/- .25).  This DOES NOT include unrecovered birds.

Please Note: Faulkton is a 4 day hunt and rest of camps are 3 day hunts

Tier 1

Faulkton - 3.0 average per day, harvested total = 111, unrecoverable birds total = 15

Upland Ringneck - 1.5 average per day,  harvested birds total = 25,  unrecoverable birds total = 7

West River Adventures - 3.0 average per day, harvested total = 108, unrecoverable birds total = 30

Wolf Creek - 2.5 average per day, harvested total = 69, unrecoverable birds total = 8

Tier 2

J Bar Lazy 7 - 2.0 average per day, harvested total = 41, unrecoverable birds total = 9

Pheasant Camp Lodge - 2.0 average per day, harvested total = 28, unrecoverable birds total = 8

Tier 3

Gunner's Haven - 2.5 average per day, harvested total = 49 unrecoverable birds total = 2

The Boar's Nest - 1.5 average per day, harvested total = 30, unrecoverable birds total = 6

Tier 4

Cattail Haven - 1.5 average per day, harvested total = 20, unrecoverable birds total = 3

Meadow Creek - 3.0 average per day, harvested total = 79, unrecoverable birds total = 12

Old Bank Lodge - 1.0 Pending average per day, harvested total = 17, unrecoverable birds total = 0

Comments:  Week 2 action is heating up.  Good bird numbers being experienced at most camps and crop harvest still an impact at others.  Corn harvest is aggressively underway and should complete in the next few weeks provided good weather prevails.  Unusually warm temps have greatly affected harvest success and dogs during the first two weeks on certain days where temps have exceeded 70 degrees.
